Syllabus

Readings

Each week, you will have assigned readings; some weeks this may include an assigned digital website or digital art piece. All readings are freely available: open source resources are located in the course schedule and non-open-source under the “Files” tab. Assigned readings provide our common language for the course, and are the focus of lectures, your   journals, and the midterm and final essays.

Attendance & Participation

Students are expected to attend all class meetings. Beyond attendance, we expect your active preparation for and participation in class. Active participation involves completing the assigned readings, being prepared to discuss, bringing questions and issues to class, making thoughtful comments during discussion, and actively listening and taking notes. Visiting with us during office hours is also a valued form of participation!

Discussions

The class will keep a communal journal or ‘intellectual diary’ that chronicles your path through the class. This ongoing discussion is an informal, creative engagement with assigned readings, course concepts and each other. You will submit journal entries once a week in the form of an original post or comment on someone else’s post. These posts can be found under the “Discussions” tab.

Oral Histories and Final Projects.
